Cash For Trash: City Fights Blight One Tire, One Sign At A Time

COJ

Jacksonville is taking a bite out of neighborhood blight Saturday, with its fouth annual Tire and Sign BuyBack event at EverBank Field.

City Councilman John Crescimbeni said the event pays residents to pick up old, discarded tires and pluck illegal snipe signs from roadways.

“Probably the most frequent ones people would see are signs that advertise 'I buy houses' or 'I clean dryer vents' or 'low cost health care' — those kinds of things. And you’ll see them in medians or on public rights-of-way at intersections.”

Crescimbeni said the city will pay Duval County residents with a valid ID $2 per tire, up to 10 tires, and 50 cents per illegal sign, up to 40 signs.

The buyback goes from 8 a.m to 2 p.m. in parking lot J at EverBank.
