Airbnb.com hosts in the Jacksonville metro area can now offer free stays to people displaced by Hurricane Irma.
Company officials say they decided to expand Airbnb’s Disaster Response Program to the entire state of Florida - with the exception of Monroe County - after talking with local emergency managers.
In addition to connecting storm evacuees with a place to stay for free, the program also helps emergency relief workers who are away from home.
Under the program, all Airbnb.com service fees as well as state and local taxes are being waived.
The company says even people who have never used Airbnb, either as a host or a guest, can participate.
The Disaster Response Program is expected to run through September 28.
