Some 200 dogs from Florida counties hit by Hurricane Irma last month were among the 630 shelter dogs and cats adopted over the weekend at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds.
The animals found new homes thanks to the First Coast No More Homeless Pets Mega Adoption Event.
The three day happening was put together in partnership with shelters and rescues from as far away as Tampa Bay.
“While the smile on the faces of the new pet owners is always a highlight, nothing is more satisfying than to hear one more shelter director say our animals are all adopted as they are heading home,” said Rick Ducharme, Founder and CEO of FCNMHP, in an email to WJCT News.
The next mega adoption will be held at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds on December 7-9 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.
