The National Transportation Safety Board is reviewing more than 70 findings and 50-plus recommendations following its more than two-years-long investigation into cargo ship El Faro’s sinking.
Among a slew of other recommendations to organizations like the U.S. Coast Guard and ship inspectors , the N-T-S-B is recommending ships have up-to-date flood alarms, personal location beacons and newer lifeboats.
The board is meeting throughout the day before voting on which recommendations in its draft report should be made official.
El Faro lost propulsion, flooded and capsized during a routine trip to San Juan Puerto Rico in October 2015.
