Jacksonville attorney Chris Hand
Stacey Bennett
Jacksonville attorney Chris Hand

The implications of a potential redistricting battle in Florida and the growing City Council pushback on some of Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan’s key spending priorities are among the topics we will discuss in our monthly conversation with attorney and political expert Chris Hand. We also take your calls and questions at (904) 549-2937 and at firstcoastconnect@wjct.org.

Guest:

  • Chris Hand,  local government expert, attorney and co-author with the late Sen. Bob Graham of America, the Owner's Manual.

Then, from urban farming to nature clubs to ecological stewardship, a local initiative focuses on increasing time kids spend outdoors and decreasing screen time and isolation. Four local nonprofits — Groundwork Jacksonville, LIFT JAX, LISC Jacksonville and the Partnership for Child Health — are launching programs in the Brentwood, Eastside, New Town and Springfield neighborhoods. Funded by a $6 million grant from Project One Health, the initiative aims to activate parks, schoolyards and the Emerald Trail as spaces where young people can learn and play.

Guests:

  • Sylia Obaji, executive director of Project: One Health.
  • Laureen Husband, director of the Partnership for Child Health.
