A Jacksonville father is searching for answers about his son’s death this month in Macclenny.
Dominic Broadus is inviting the Baker County community to discuss the mysterious shooting and share any tips they might have at a town hall Tuesday.
Thirty-one-year-old Jacksonville man DJ Broadus was found Feb. 3 in a remote area of Macclenny, shot in the head three times, his dad said.
“It was pure evil,” he said.
Broadus wants to know who shot DJ and why. As our partner News 4 Jax reported, a relative of a former Baker County sheriff’s deputy was questioned, but no arrests have been made as the Florida Department of Law Enforcement has taken over the investigation.
“My son was a father, he was a loving son, a loving brother. He was a musician, and he had a great spirit about him, and he was just a loving guy. He made friends very easily,” Broadus said.
The case has attracted the attention of Black Lives Matter and other groups, who are rallying around the #Justice4DJBroadus hashtag on social media.
Broadus said he’s worried there may have been a racial component to his son’s killing, and he doesn’t feel he’s getting enough answers from investigators as rumors swirl around the internet.

The town hall about DJ Broadus’s death starts at 6 p.m. at the Emmanuel Church of God in Christ at 450 S. 8th St. in Macclenny.
