Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance Moving To Saturday Because Of Rain

Classic cars were on display at the 2017 Concours d'Elegance.

With a strong chance of heavy precipitation forecast for Sunday and a sunshine-filled Saturday in the mix, the Amelia Concours team has moved Sunday’s event to Saturday, they announced in a news release Thursday morning.

Many cars are just on display at the show. Others are for sale, like a 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera RSR Turbo, which has a price tag in the millions.

Mitch Katz is the CEO of Premier Financial Services, a company that finances really expensive cars.  He said these days, wealthy car enthusiasts, who before would simply write a very large check, are increasingly opting to lease the cars of their dreams.

“If someone had, let’s say, a couple hundred thousand dollars and wanted to buy a car, they could use $50K as a down payment on maybe three or four different cars that all, if they’re vintage, have the potential to increase in value,” he said.

The Concours show will now coincide with Saturday’s "Cars & Coffee" event presented by Heacock Classic Insurance.

The new schedule is as follows:

  • RM Sotheby’s Auction will move to Friday, March 9, at 3 p.m.
  • Saturday, March 10: Cars & Coffee at the Concours 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, March 10: Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance 9:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.
  • Saturday evening’s Gala is unchanged
  • Saturday’s “Drivers of the IMSA Prototypes” seminar is now moved to Sunday at 10:30 a.m in the Talbot Ballroom at the Ritz-Carlton
