Tuesday the Republican Party of Duval County called on the Democratic Party to put a stop to a local organizer urging protests at newly-appointed Republican District 10 City Councilman Terrence Freeman’s home.
“I’m asking Lisa King to consider for a moment what she is doing to Mr. Freeman’s four young daughters by threatening loud, round-the-clock protests,” said Karyn Morton of the Republican Party of Duval County.
Morton is referring to Democratic Party Chair Lisa King and local activist Rev. Reginald Gundy.
At a Monday news conference about Freeman's appointment to City Council Gundy said, “I’m going to encourage the people of District 10 to make somebody’s life a little miserable. We need to get some picket signs and start walking in front of his house and keep him from sleeping at night.”
Morton is calling on King to condemn Gundy’s comments. In a news release the GOP said King should help “work to restore civility, tolerance and respect to the public square.”
Northside Jacksonville resident Brenda Priestly Jackson, who applied for the job, last week announced she is suing Gov. Rick Scott and Freeman because at the time of Freeman’s appointment to council, he was still a resident of Mandarin in District 6.
