Procrastinators: this is your day. Monday night at midnight is the deadline to register to vote for Florida’s August 28 primary.
A voter assistance Hotline is available at 1-866-308-6739. You can also use RegisterToVoteFlorida.gov or try emailing OVRsupport@dos.myflorida.com.
Voters that prefer to register in person in Duval County have until 5 p.m. to register at either the Supervisor of Elections office at 105 E. Monroe St. in downtown Jacksonville or at any Duval County branch library.
Voters that wish to change their party affiliation face the same deadline.
If you haven’t registered to vote yet, you’ll need your Florida driver license or Florida identification card and the last four digits of your social security number.
In order to verify a user’s identity, the information typed into the online voter registration website must exactly match the information that appears on the user’s most recent Florida driver license or state identification card.
Florida is a closed primary state which means that only voters who are registered members of political parties may vote for their respective party candidates for an office in a primary election.
However, all qualified voters regardless of party affiliation or no party affiliation can vote in the following races appearing on a primary election ballot:
- All candidates in the same race who have the same party affiliation and the winner will have no opposition in the general election.
- Nonpartisan judicial and school board offices.
- Nonpartisan special districts and other local offices.
- Local referendum questions.
Additional information is available at Florida’s Division of Elections’ website.
