The casting director is looking for cars from the 1970s, like this late 70s Pontiac Trans Am, which is pictured at this past weekend's Ponte Vedra Auto Show that was held at Nocatee.

Locals who want a shot at the Hollywood spotlight can apply to be an extra in a major motion picture shoot coming up on Monday, Sept. 24, in St. Marys, Georgia.

A waterfront in St. Marys will be the setting for a scene in Doctor Sleep, the upcoming sequel to The Shining starring Ewan McGregor. The scene is actually set on a Florida beach, according to extras casting director Tammy Smith.

She said no acting experience is necessary to apply to be in the scene.

“What I do is actually very interesting because I can hire people from all walks of life to just come and play with us for the day and get paid to do it, and it’s just very easy,” she said.

Smith said she needs to hire 40 extras of a variety of ages and body types for the Monday shoot and plans to have all the casting done “in the next couple of days.”

She’s also looking for local people who have cars from the 1970s because the scene is set in the year 1980. Any models from the late 1960s to the year 1980 would be good, she said.

As for what extras should wear to the shoot if they’re cast, Smith said it’s a collaboration between the cast member and the costume department. She’ll send people a list of time-period-neutral items that are likely in everyone’s closet, and then the film crew will pepper in a few key items if someone shows up in something that looks too modern.

“A lot of times you sell that with the hairstyle and eye glasses and things like that — and the cars, actually, the cars are what help sell it,” Smith said.

St. Marys is just under 40 miles north of Jacksonville.

Anyone interested in working the shoot — or having their car in the film — should contact Tammy Smith at the email address below.
