Jacksonville International Airport turned 50 last year and broke an 11-year-old record for passenger traffic.

The Jacksonville Aviation Authority announced Thursday that 6,460,253 air travelers went through the airport in 2018.

That’s compared to the previous record of 6,319,501 set in 2007 and nearly 900,000 more than came through JIA last year.

JAA officials credited the addition of new destinations, more frequent flights, larger aircraft and the start of service by Frontier and Spirit airlines for the increase.
