ACFR’s Kelly Dugger saw a mother deer who had been hit and killed in an overnight vehicle accident on her way to work Thursday.

A one or two day old fawn was beside the deer, grieving the loss of  his mother.

ACFR said Dugger’s compassion prompted her to rescue the fawn and bring him to the ACFR headquarters to be cared for until he could be turned over to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

“Kelly’s actions this morning are a direct reflection of Alachua County’s mission to enhance and care for the lives of those in our community,” the department wrote on Facebook.

ACFR said the fawn will ultimately be placed where he can rehabilitate safety with other deer.
