City Offers Event Planners Chance To Strike A Pose On Empty Downtown Land

WJCT's Heather Schatz strikes a yoga pose on the grassy field that was once the area occupied by the former Duval County Courthouse and old City Hall Annex.

Event planners take note: That grassy field in Downtown Jacksonville where the old Duval County Courthouse and City Hall Annex used to be is now available for your next big event.

Brent Fine with the City’s Special Events Office said "Big" is the operative word here.

"The Office of Special Events manages all permitting for events that are over 500 people at any time on public property."

The permit for this riverfront field is around a $100.  But that’s just the starting price.

"There are police and fire and maintenance costs but they depend on the size and scope for the event on what those costs would be."

And, Fine said, there are plenty of other city-owned properties that are perfect for much smaller occasions.
