A Jacksonville artist has been named the state’s 2020 Featured Artist for Black History Month.

Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis announced the honor to Daniel Wynn, an African American painter and sculptor who lives in Spring?eld.

Wynn said he’s happy to have the opportunity to display his work in the Governor’s Mansion in Tallahassee.

“Art is a universal language.  And it sort of bridges the gaps between fellow man and allows them to come together in a positive manner as opposed to being non-flexible and nonsensical in terms of just an overall relationship,” he said.

Wynn said his work has been displayed worldwide.

In Jacksonville, his sculpture of African American ballplayer Buck O’Neil can be seen at the intersection of Eighth Street and Myrtle Avenue, near where Wynn grew up.
