Donna Deegan takes the stage to campaign for Andrew Gillum on Oct. 22, 2018 at a Jacksonville rally.

Democrat Donna Deegan now has enough signatures to officially qualify for the upcoming ballot for the primary election August 18.

Deegan announced in November that she was running against Republican incumbent Rep. John Rutherford (FL-4th District). His district includes areas of Nassau, Duval, and St. Johns counties.  Rutherford is a former Jacksonville Sheriff running for a third term.

Deegan’s campaign said it has secured more than 5,700 signatures from those on board with her platform to bring what the campaign calls, “common sense back to politics.”

Deegan is a Jacksonville native and former journalist and evening news anchor on the First Coast.

She is a breast- cancer survivor and founder of the DONNA Foundation that provides medical assistance to families facing breast cancer.

Before being elected to Congress, Rutherford severed as Jacksonville’s sheriff.
