A new fellowship program is meant to help Duval County teachers encourage diversity and nurture inclusion at school.
The Wolfburg Fellowship will be awarded to one teacher each year to do a deep dive into issues relating to social justice and create ways to pass that knowledge on to others.
The fellowship is supported by the newly-created Wolfburg Fund for Social Justice in Education. It is the brainchild of Vystar Credit Union CEO Brian Wolfburg and his husband Jake.
Brian said being the dads of their 4-year-old adopted son, Asher, who’s also mixed-race is what drove them to develop the fellowship.
“I think it would be foolish of us to not think about and be concerned about the challenges that he may face. And we want to have an impact on the community around us and help to improve the community as a whole. And to hopefully, thus, include his experience in life.”
The Wolfburg Fellowship is being administered by the nonprofit Jacksonville Public Education Fund.
