In this May 6, 2020 photo, a sign that reads "Hiring Today!" is posted in the window of a Domino's Pizza store open for delivery or pick-up only in downtown Seattle.

Unemployment and lost wages during the pandemic have taken their toll on families, but at least three businesses have announced substantial hiring campaigns for the Jacksonville area.

Bite Squad is hiring 200 delivery drivers, and Domino’s is looking to add 700 team members. Meanwhile, mortgage-lending company NewRez LLC plans to double its employee team here with another 100 employees.

With the pandemic causing people to stay home more, food-delivery companies like Bite Squad have seen a rise in demand. People can order from restaurants via the company's app or website, then drivers pick up and deliver the meals. This helps restaurants, whose capacities are restricted for COVID-19 guidelines, sell take-out orders.
