Although Gov. Ron DeSantis has eased COVID-19 statewide restrictions, Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry has extended his order that face coverings be worn when social distancing isn’t possible in public indoor settings.
Curry’s office confirmed to WJCT News Monday afternoon that the mayor has extended his emergency executive proclamation for 30 days.
The mandate applies to those 6-years-old and up who are in public indoor settings where social distancing isn’t possible.
The extension comes following the governor’s Friday announcement that he was lifting all occupancy restrictions on restaurants and other businesses, effectively immediately.

Curry did not call a news conference about the mandate’s extension but has previously said of wearing masks: “There are very few levers that we can utilize in government to slow the spread, and the easiest lever is just wear a mask. So let's just be smart.”
