The Florida Department of Health in St. Johns County is now vaccinating people 65 and older after receiving its first shipment of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. However, new appointments are not currently being accepted, the county said, and people should "check back this weekend" for further information.
The county’s health department received approximately 3,000 doses in the first batch and is using it to vaccinate the follow groups while the supply lasts:
- Healthcare personnel with direct patient contact
- Long-term care facility residents and staff
- People 65 years of age and older
For seniors, the vaccinations are being done by appointment only, at the Health and Human Services Building at 200 San Sebastian View in St. Augustine. In announcing the vaccine availability on Wednesday evening, the county said, "all available appointments for this week have already been filled."
The county said in the future — a date wasn’t specified — that COVID-19 vaccination appointments would be available to schedule online.
For those with questions about receiving a vaccine, the county has activated its Emergency Operations Centers hotline at 904-295-3711 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
St. Johns County officials said as more vaccines become available additional information would be posted on its website.
County residents can also text SJCVACCINE to 888777 to receive updates.
