Ascension St. Vincent's Fills All Spots For Vaccines At Clay County Fairgrounds

Ascension St. Vincent’s is holding a COVID-19 vaccination event on Monday, Jan. 18, for Clay County residents age 65 and older, which the hospital said filled up shortly after the event was announced Friday morning.

The appointments will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Clay County Fairgrounds on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

The health system plans to provide about 2,500 vaccinations at the one-day event.

Those seeking a shot Monday were required to first schedule a vaccination. But officials said by 12:35 p.m. Friday, all slots had been filled.

The following procedure will be used to adminster the shots:

  • Patients will check in, providing the necessary information and signing required consent forms.
  • Patients will be directed either to a socially distanced waiting area or to a vaccination station.
  • After vaccination, patients will be directed to an observation area, where they will be monitored for at least 15 minutes as a standard precaution.

“We continue to collaborate closely with local and state health officials to ensure we’re doing everything we can to get as many people vaccinated as safely and efficiently as possible,” said Ascension Florida and Gulf Coast Chief Clinical Officer Dr. Estrellita Redmon in an email to WJCT News.

Last Friday, Jan. 8, Ascension St. Vincent’s also began COVID-19 vaccination clinics for patients of Ascension Medical Group (AMG) in Northeast Florida who are age 65 or older. The health system is continuously contacting AMG patients who meet the criteria and providing them with sign-up information, general instructions, and clinic directions. The health system also continues to vaccinate its employees.

For all COVID-19 clinics, patients receive a vaccination card and information about obtaining the required second dose. Everyone must be masked while in the facility or event space and follow all directions, ensuring they maintain social distancing. Unless there are special needs, guests accompanying patients should remain outside of the facility or event space, maintaining masking and social distancing guidelines.
