Jacksonville University was evacuated Friday afternoon.

Jacksonville University ordered anyone on campus to immediately evacuate Friday afternoon, citing a threat that was made.

"We received a threat of violence on campus via email today," spokeswoman Laura Phelps said, according to WJCT News partner The Florida Times-Union. "We issued an immediate alert for mandatory evacuation."

Phelps said personnel don't believe there is an "immediate threat," but are asking people to stay away from campus while police investigate.

By around 3:30 p.m. at least 15 JSO police cars could be seen on campus.

Nick Sprague, a current JU student, said a lot of people were bottlenecking at the same time to get off campus when the evacuation alert was issued.
