Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry is working with a small group of business and community leaders to come up with quick ways to spur economic development Downtown.
The group met for the first time Monday morning.
“Nearly two years ago, I committed to the people of this city that by the time I left office, you wouldn’t recognize Downtown Jacksonville. My team and I are focused on that goal and are working hand in hand with business and community leaders to make that vision a reality,” Curry said.
The mayor’s Downtown Business & Community Working Group, as it’s being called, is made up of the following members:
John Rood, chairman of Vestcor Companies
Gary Norcrossm, chairman, president and CEO of FIS
Aundra Wallace, president of JAX USA
Nat Ford, CEO of the JTA
Jack Hanania, founder and CEO of Hanania automotive group
Edward Burr, president and CEO of GreenPointe Holdings
During Monday’s meeting, the group talked about everything from transportation to events to homelessness.
The next step is for the group to gather information on what’s important to the people who live and work Downtown and then put together a list of recommended actions.
