The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine is pictured.

St. Johns County announced Wednesday it is now accepting COVID-19 vaccination appointment preregistrations for Florida residents age 16 years and older to receive the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.

Preregistrations are now being accepted at sjcvaccineappointment.sjcfl.us.

Those who preregister will receive an automated phone call from 904-295-3711 with an assigned appointment date and time. Anyone who chooses to decline the appointment will remain preregistered, and will receive a subsequent phone call with an alternative appointment.

When arriving at a vaccination site, appointment holders will be required to provide identification and proof of Florida residency. Individuals under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

The appointment preregistration system is only for individuals who are receiving their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. People that want to request assistance with preregistration or need additional information can call 904-295-3711.

Currently Floridians 40 and older are eligible for vaccinations. Gov. Ron DeSantis announced last week the age will be lowered to 18 and older starting on Monday, April 5. However, the state Department of Health later clarified that the Pfizer vaccine will be available to everyone 16 and older.

At the time of this story’s publication, St. Johns County reported 202 COVID-related deaths and 20,835 confirmed cases of the virus.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 61,297 people - or 23% - have been fully vaccinated in St. Johns County.
