Brett McClung has announced he is resigning as Baptist Health’s president and CEO, effective May 1.

“This was a difficult decision that I reached after much reflection. It has been a privilege working with what I consider to be the best health care team in Northeast Florida, and I am proud of all we have accomplished together. Baptist Health has always been financially and reputationally strong, and I know they will continue to be this community’s health care leader,” McClung wrote in a news release.

Since McClung became president and CEO of Baptist Health in July of 2019, the health system achieved top rankings in U.S. News & World Report.

“On behalf of the Board, we thank Brett for his service and accomplishments during his tenure as CEO. We are grateful for his leadership and we wish Brett and his family the very best,” said Richard Sisisky, chairman of the Baptist Health Board of Directors, in the same news release.

Michael Mayo, hospital president of Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville, will assume the role of interim president and CEO until a permanent replacement can be found.

The hospital now begins an external and internal search.
