Florida’s lone statewide elected Democrat is urging Gov. Ron DeSantis to veto a handful of bills sent to him by the state Legislature.
For one, Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried is urging the governor to veto a bill that would make it harder for local governments to address climate change.
“House Bill 919 will prohibit municipalities from restricting any fuel source a utility may use or sell, making any commitment to 100% clean energy nearly impossible for the future,” Fried said during a press conference Tuesday afternoon. “Governor, veto this bill.”
The bill does make an exception for city-owned utilities, like Jacksonville’s JEA.
Other bills Fried wants Gov. DeSantis to veto include one that would ban transgender women and girls from participating in school sports that align with their gender identity and another that would limit the use of mail-in ballots and drop boxes in future elections.
