Sulzbacher announced Thursday it will be usings its healthmobile, named Health and Hope on Wheels, to vaccinate underserved First Coast communities, including all area homeless shelters.
The healthmobile has these dates scheduled, with more to come:
- May 17, 9 a.m. – Ability Housing, Village on Wiley, 6970 Wiley Road, Jacksonville
- May 17, noon – Barnabas, 45021 3rd Ave., Callahan
- May 18, noon – Barnabas, 1303 Jasmine St., Fernandina Beach
- May 19, 10 a.m. – Mayport with BEAM, 1800 Mayport Road, Atlantic Beach
- May 20, 10 a.m. – Sulzbacher Village with Feeding NE FL’s Mobile Food Pantry, 5455 Springfield Blvd., Jacksonville
- May 21, 9 a.m. – Sulzbacher Village, 5455 Springfield Blvd., Jacksonville
The vaccine program is part of the American Rescue Plan, federal pandemic relief funding that was granted to community health centers across the country to serve at-risk populations. The program is aimed at overcoming the challenge of not having transportation to get a vaccination site.
Sulzbacher is the largest homeless assistance service provider in Northeast Florida.
“This is just the beginning of a two-year project to get the vaccine out to people where they are, in shelters, housing programs and other vulnerable communities,” said Cindy Funkhouser, president and CEO, of Sulzbacher in an email sent to WJCT News.
Residents of other local homeless shelters, such as The Salvation Army and Trinity Rescue Mission, will be among those receiving vaccines from the program. Sulzbacher is among 47 federally qualified health centers across the state.
