Because of the recent increase in Jacksonville-area COVID-19 cases, local agencies that serve the homeless are gearing up to meet increased demand among that population for testing, vaccinations, temporary shelter and case management.
The 15 homeless service providers in the local COVID-19 Shelter Task Force have "updated and re-engaged" its pandemic protocol developed last year, said Dawn Gilman, CEO of Changing Homelessness, the group's lead agency.
"The Shelter Task Force has proven the power of collaboration and how swiftly our community can come together to support our community’s most vulnerable citizens," Gilman said. "The model we collectively created last year … provided a structure that we can implement quickly and efficiently, yet adjust as necessary to current circumstances."
