Sen. Travis Hutson, R-St. Augustine, and Rep. Jim Mooney, R-Islamorada, face Republican challengers as they seek re-election in 2022.

Ponte Vedra Beach Republican Gerald James opened a campaign account this week to challenge Hutson in what is now Senate District 7 in St. Johns, Flagler and Volusia counties, according to the state Division of Elections website.

Meanwhile, Big Pine Key Republican Robert Allen opened an account to run against Mooney in what is now House District 120 in Monroe and Miami-Dade counties.

\Also in recent days, Miami Republican Ricky Tsay opened an account to run for an open seat in Miami-Dade County’s House District 118. Also running for the seat is Miami Republican Daniel Sotelo.

The boundaries — and potentially the numbers — of districts will change before the 2022 elections because of the once-a-decade reapportionment process.
