Two pharmacists from Jacksonville have started a beard care company selling products made for men of color.
Derick McElveen and Theron Douglas saw a need when it came to more products for Black men and pitched their idea two years ago at a University of North Florida startup competition. They say winning third place gave them the foundation to launch their business now.
McElveen said it’s taken years to launch their Everyday Fresh Club.
“It’s such a far distance between saying you want to do something and doing something and learning supply chain economics during the pandemic. It’s been interesting, but we’re here and it’s been a great journey,” he said.
Douglas said the men believe their products will change lives because there are so few products tailored for Black men by Black men.
“It’s been a journey and to have the privilege to be considered to care for other men in the way that I care for myself and to maybe even have an opportunity to have them see the value that we’ve seen and tried to put into the product, you know it’s a privilege,” he commented.
