Steve, a beloved 11-year-old cheetah at Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens, was humanely euthanized due to deteriorating health last week.
The animal care and veterinary staff had been monitoring his health closely and "last week his condition continued to deteriorate," the zoo posted Tuesday, on Facebook.
"Steve's quality of life was the highest priority, and the difficult decision was made to humanely euthanize him," the post read.
