Veterans can get free advice to start small businesses

An event Friday will help veterans and their families start and build small businesses.

Seventy spots remain open for Jacksonville’s Vetrepreneur Summit, a collaboration of the city, Florida State College at Jacksonville and the University of North Florida.

The one-day summit will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at FSCJ’s Kent Campus at 3939 Roosevelt Blvd. Panels of experts and entrepreneurs will provide advice for veterans, service members, National Guard members, reservists and spouses.

Topics include business startup, financing, contracting, resources and success stories.

Jim Stallings, founder and CEO of PS27 Ventures, will give the keynote presentation. He served as a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Eighty of 150 tickets for the free event were spoken for as of Monday night.

More information is available on the registration website.
