The total crime rate dropped in Duval County lasts year, mirroring a decline statewide, but exactly what type of crimes declined is unknown.
Florida’s overall crime rate dropped 8.3% to the lowest level in 50 years, according to the Annual Uniform Crime Report released Wednesday. Duval County's overall rate dropped 3.41%. Clay County saw a 0.84% increase and Nassau County a 4.2% rise.

Some law enforcement agencies in Duval and Clay counties were those that did not submit specific crime statistics because they are transitioning to a new reporting system. No information on whether crimes like murder or burglary went up or down in those counties is available yet, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement said.
Agencies can submit more specific information as they move to the new system. Crime-specific data will be released later this year, the FDLE said.
Statewide, murder fell 14.2% and robbery 17.5%, the report says. Burglary was down 15.1%. The only category of crime to increase was rape, up 13.7%
A total of 239 Florida law enforcement agencies submitted crime stats to the state law enforcement agency for the annual report, which began tracking crime statistics in 1971.
