The cold blast over the weekend left Jacksonville's homeless shelters packed and sent one man into the streets to help.

Lee Kryszewski and his wife, Betty, distribute warm coffee and snacks to homeless people throughout the year. He was out Monday on the city's Northbank providing warmth — emotionally and physically — on MLK Day.

Sulzbacher, which provides services to the homeless, said 26 men sought shelter at its Downtown campus over the weekend. Twelve women and families received help at Sulzbacher Village in Brentwood.

Sulzbacher says it's at capacity now for emergency and permanent beds. But many homeless brave the cold and never go into the shelter.

Sulzbacher's Urban Rest Stop is open every day at the Downtown campus for anyone who wants to be inside during the day.
