Discount airline Breeze Airways is adding flights at Jacksonville International Airport.
Beginning in May, Breeze will fly nonstop to Los Angeles year-round and to Pittsburgh through Sept. 5. Breeze also will offer one-stop service, with no plane change, to New York-Islip; Cincinnati, Ohio; and Louisville, Kentucky.
“Getting nonstop flights to the West Coast is one of our highest priorities, so we are thrilled with today’s announcement,” Jacksonville Aviation Authority CEO Mark VanLoh said in a news release.
Breeze markets itself as the "Seriously Nice Airline," with fare levels labeled Nice, Nicer and Nicest. The higher levels include perks like more leg room, a carry-on bag, a checked bag, and a snack and drink.
Breeze founder and CEO David Neeleman also founded JetBlue Airways. He has said Breeze aims to serve underserved markets — "so you don’t have to drive long distances or fly through connecting hubs. With Breeze, we’ll get there twice as fast, for about half the price."
Jacksonville was part of a national expansion for Breeze in March 2022. The airline has recently ordered 80 new Airbus A220-300 aircraft, with options for 40 more.
Besides the new cities, Breeze flies from Jacksonville to Columbus, Ohio; Hartford, Connecticut; Las Vegas; New Orleans; Norfolk, Virginia; Providence, Rhode Island; Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina; Richmond, Virginia; and Westchester County, New York, according to its website.
Breeze is offering discounted introductory fares on its new routes: from $39 one way to Pittsburgh or $99 one way to Los Angeles. Tickets must be purchased by Feb. 20. Go to Breeze's website for details.
Breeze doesn’t charge change or cancellation fees up to 15 minutes prior to departure and offers other benefits such as free family seating and a la carte pricing.
