Jacksonville police officer accused of DUI with child in car

News4Jax

A Jacksonville police officer has been arrested on charges of driving under the influence after a car crash Saturday night.

Edith Adriana Jaworski, 47, a 17-year Sheriff's Office veteran, was charged with three counts of DUI — one count of driving under the influence, one count of DUI with a minor and one count of DUI causing damage, Sheriff T.K. Waters said Monday. She was released from jail Sunday.

The crash happened just before 6 p.m. Saturday when another car was rear-ended at Beach Boulevard and Discovery Way, Waters said. Officers who spoke to Jaworski saw “numerous signs of impairment” and arrested her after she refused to take a field sobriety test, the sheriff said. There was a child in her car, Waters added.

Jaworski is under internal investigation by the Sheriff’s Office. She has been stripped of her police powers and put on administrative duty, the sheriff said.

This is the fourth arrest of a Sheriff’s Office employee this year.
