Florida's Census Results And What They Mean; Politics And Policies

WFSU
The Florida Capitol

The U.S. Census Bureau announced the initial results of the nationwide 2020 population count this week.

The results show Florida’s population has grown nearly 15% from 2010, which means the state will gain one new seat in the U.S. House of Representatives as well as one more Electoral College vote for president.

Mike Schneider of the Associated Press joined us to discuss all of this in more detail.

Florida's Legislative Session

A number of controversial bills – covering everything from voting, protests, social media and transgender athletes - have come out of the Republican-controlled state Legislature in the last weeks of its law writing session, which official ends Friday, April 30.

Fernand Amandi, a Democratic Strategist, MSNBC Analyst and University of Miami Professor; and Susan MacManus, a University of South Florida Distinguished University Professor Emerita and Political Analyst, joined us to take a closer look at them, as well as the intersection between politics and policy.
