JSO Officer Arrested For Illegal Recordings

Kevin Meerschaert

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s office has arrested one of their own for illegally recording conversations with a fellow officer.

Hazel Moore is a ten-year veteran. Undersheriff Dwayne Senterfitt says Moore says she was having problems with her sergeant and used her JSO issued laptop computer to secretly record their conversations with him and two other officers without their consent.

Another sergeant suspected Moore was recording conversations and informed his lieutenant. Moore's laptop was brought to the JSO's I-T Department which discovered the conversations were deleted from the computer but they were able to retrieve them.

Moore is charged with illegal interception of communication and tampering with evidence. The recordings were made a few months ago. Moore has been placed on unpaid voluntary leave.   She was suspended for five days in 2008 for unbecoming conduct and failure to be fully candid regarding an internal JSO matter.

Kevin Meerschaert has left WJCT for new pursuits. He was the producer of First Coast Connect until October of 2018.
