New Photos Released As Manhunt Continues For Mistakenly Released Convicts

The manhunt for convicted killers Joesph Jenkins and Charles Walker continues today after authorities said they were erroneously released from Franklin Correctional Institution late last month.

Authorities did not become aware that the two inmates had been mistakenly released until October 15, 18 days after Jenkins was released on September 27. Walker was released Oct. 8.

Because their convictions were a result of crimes originated in Orange County and Orlando, authorities on Wednesday said at least one of the escapees may be in the Orlando area.

According to Florida Department of Corrections Secretary Michael Crews, the two were released in accordance with state policy and procedure, but their releases were based on "fraudulent modifications" to court orders.

"The department is conducting a vigorous and thorough review if releases that were based on court orders received from Orange County to ensure there are no other inmates who have been released based on falsified documents," Crews said in a release.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are investigating how the inmates were released and working to apprehend them.

This morning an FDLE spokeswoman said there have been no updates in the manhunt since earlier in the week. The department released updated photos of the two men on Thursday afternoon.

Joseph Jenkins was serving time for 1st Degree Attempted Murder, and Charles Walker was serving a life sentence for 2nd Degree Murder.
