Marissa Alexander will likely have to remain in Duval County Jail until at least through the end of 2013.
Circuit Court Judge James Daniel made no decision at Alexander’s bond hearing on Wednesday. Another pretrial hearing has been scheduled for January 15.
Judge Daniel said he has many trials and hearings in the coming weeks, which is the reason for the delay.
Pastor Al Berry, who has known Alexander since she was a teenager and has offered her a job at Faith Chapel Church of God, said he is disappointed that it will be weeks before a decision is made
“I think that Marissa has shown great resolve, great confidence and faith in the judicial system, and I’d like the judicial system step up and allow her some kind of normalcy of life,” he said, adding that Alexander needs to be reunited with her children.
Alexander’s case has drawn national attention since she was sentenced to 20 years in prison for firing what she claimed was a warning shot at her allegedly abusive husband Rico Gray.
Last month a judge ruled for a retrial due to an error in the judge’s instructions to the jury, and upheld a rejection of use of the state's controversial "Stand Your Ground" law in her defense.
