A statewide group that advocates against capital punishment is calling on Governor Rick Scott to issue a moratorium on executions in response to this week's botched lethal injection in Oklahoma.Mark Elliot, executive director of Floridians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty, spoke with WJCT's Patrick Donges about how the execution of convicted Oklahoma killer Clayton Lockett on Tuesday could affect efforts to abolish the death penalty in Florida.
Lockett writhed, clenched his teeth and strained to lift his head after he was supposed to have been rendered unconscious by the first drug of a three drug cocktail used by Oklahoma in lethal injections. The drug cocktail is nearly identical to those used in Florida's lethal injection procedure.
