Man Appearing In Jacksonville Court For Plot To Aid ISIS

Jacksonville Federal Courthouse

Three men were arrested today for allegedly plotting to travel to Syria to join the self-proclaimed Islamic State, commonly referred to as ISIS.

One of the men, Abror Habibov, 30, was arrested in Florida and arraigned in Jacksonville this morning. According to the criminal complaint obtained by our news partner, News4Jax, Habibov ran kitchenware and mobile phone repair kiosks in shopping malls in Jacksonville, Savannah and other cities. Habibov alegedly funded the plot to help ISIS by purchasing airplane tickets for? his employee, Akhror Saidakhmetov, 19.

Saidakhmetov and another man allegedly involved in the plot, Abdurasul Juraboev, 24, were arrested in New York City earlier this morning. The FBI says the men also planned to commit an attack in the United States if they were unable to join ISIS, including possibly killing President Obama or bombing Coney Island.

Officials told NBC 4 New York the three men are being charged with conspiracy to provide material support to a terror group. If convicted, the men could face 15 years in prison.
