Today’s Media Roundtable discussed some of the top stories in the First Coast, including:
- The City of Jacksonville is using millions from the American Rescue Plan to resume trash collection. Taxpayers across Duval County voiced their concerns about delays in garbage collection. On Tuesday, Mayor Lenny Curry announcedrecycling services are stopping next week due to labor shortages.
- The Jacksonville City Council voted 12-1 on Tuesday to approve Mayor Lenny Curry’s $1.41 billion budget for the 2021-22 fiscal year.
- Late Tuesday night, City Council voted to approve $500 thousand to a nonprofit with a spotty history run by Councilmember Reggie Gaffney, in addition to funding requests for the other councilmember’s nonprofits. None of the organizations awarded money had to compete for the grants.
- Duval County Public Schools continues to push back against the state’s edicts on masks and quarantine in schools.
- The Jaguars lost again last night to the Bengals, with a final score of 24-21. This is the Jaguars’ 19th consecutive regular-season loss.
- The DONNA Foundation kicks off Breast Cancer Awareness Month with the announcement of the return to in-person races. The PLAYERS DONNA 5K is tomorrow at the PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass.

“Drive Electric”
JEA’s first-ever “Drive Electric” event is this Saturday at the Museum of Science and History. Participants can test drive the newest electric cars and bikes.
