Fruit loop
A community fundraiser couples two worthy goals: getting an early jump on holiday shopping and supporting Florida's struggling citrus industry. The Mandarin Community Club harnesses the area’s historic legacy as a citrus hub (hence the name) with its second annual 2026 Florida Citrus Fundraiser. This year, the sale includes grapefruit grown using an approach known as CUPS, or Citrus Under Protective Screen, which shields the fruit from the invasive and devastating insect-borne greening disease. Preorders are open through Nov. 12, and fruit boxes can be shipped around the country as gifts or picked up at the club’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting on Dec. 4. We discuss how the club’s past — and future — remain connected to the iconic citrus fruit.
