A poll from the Public Opinion Research Lab at the University of North Florida found that many Floridians disagree with legislation on a number of controversial issues — abortion restrictions, discussion about sexual orientation at school, partisan school board races, legalized marijuana and others.

Michael Binder, head of the research lab, says UNF tried to get the pulse of what regular citizens think.

Soil and water conservation

Sen. Travis Hutson of St. Augustine recently proposed getting rid of every Soil and Water Conservation District in the state. The idea got criticized, so he’s now proposing new legislation that would leave the conservation districts in place, but also require that elected members be agriculture professionals. That idea is getting pushback too.

Guest: Nicole Crosby, president and co-founder of Save Guana Now.

Construction jobs

New employment statistics show there are more construction jobs in Jacksonville than there are workers to fill them. And many of these positions are very high-paying.

If you think you’re not qualified to work construction, the new organization Construction Ready is here for you. They provide the free training and information you need to get certified in construction fields and get right to work. And classes are starting soon.

Guest: Scott Shelar, president and CEO of Construction Ready.
