Dress code debate on the First Coast; Hands-On; ICARE; The Penguin Project; Jacksonville Dance Film Festival

The dress codes for students in both Duval and St. Johns counties are once again a hot topic of debate. The Duval County Council of Parent-Teacher Associations is asking for the district’s dress code to be updated. Meanwhile, in St. Johns County, families are being polled about the student code of conduct including its dress code. Critics have fired back against dress codes, calling them sexist.

Hands-On: Citizen action for Ukraine

Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy is calling for unlimited military assistance from NATO as Ukraine continues to fight off Russia’s onslaught. Here in the United States, many Americans have donated to Ukrainian relief organizations but are left wondering what else they can do to support Ukraine.

ICARE

Next week, the local interfaith group ICARE will host the largest grassroots assembly for important change and progress in protecting the city from crime, increasing trust and transparency in our criminal justice system, tackling violence and preparing Jacksonville to be more resilient to future flooding.

The Penguin Project

The Apex Theatre Studio is starting a local chapter of The Penguin Project. Disabled children across the First Coast will be able to share in the joy of theater, with an upcoming performance of Aladdin Jr. this summer.

Jacksonville Dance Film Festival

Dance Meets Film in Jacksonville as the Jacksonville Dance Theatre holds its fifth Jacksonville Dance Film Festival. The festival screens at the Museum of Contemporary Art.
