Proposed Property Tax Notices Sent Out To Duval County Residents

City of Jacksonville

Residents of Duval County, start checking your mailboxes.

It's time for the annual "Truth in Millage" or TRIM notices to reach your door. The Duval County Property Appraiser mails out the notices every August.

They show a land parcel's proposed property values as well as the maximum millage rate. The City Council voted to increase the tax rate by 1.5 mills but hopes that rate can be lowered by the time the millage is set by the council in  September.

County Property Appraiser Jim Overton says if you question your assessment you can contact his office and staff will explain how they came up with the numbers.

If a property owner still isn't satisfied they can petition the county's Value Adjustment Board to appeal the market value assessed. Those petitions must be filed by September 13.

Tax bills will be mailed out on October 31.

Kevin Meerschaert has left WJCT for new pursuits. He was the producer of First Coast Connect until October of 2018.
