Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan gave $50,000 to the political committee supporting Mayor Alvin Brown’s re-election. The donation makes him the top individual contributor to Brown’s campaign.

According to records filed with the Florida Division of Election, Khan gave the money to the Taking Jacksonville to the Next Level political committee on Feb. 28.

In the meantime, the first challenger to step into the ring against Mayor Brown is Duval County Property Appraiser and local Republican Jim Overton.

Joining us on our regular Friday media roundtable to discuss this and other stories is our panel of local journalists

  • Fred Matthews, Examiner blogger

  • Chris Hong, Florida Times Union Reporter

  • John Burr, Jacksonville Business Journal editor

  • Kyle Sieg,  WJXT TV4 Producer

Additional topics include ways to reduce gun fire and violence at Jacksonville’s nightclubs and gun safety.
