A new poll of shows a quarter of likely Jacksonville voters are indecisive as this month’s mayoral election approaches. The top three candidates all say the numbers work in their favor.
The UNF poll found incumbent Democrat Alvin Brown leading with 37 percent and Republicans Lenny Curry and Bill Bishop trailing behind at 25 and 11 percent. Unaffiliated candidate Omega Allen is polling at 2 percent. The remaining 25 percent are undecided.
Brown's Deputy Campaign Manager Fabian Levy says the numbers are great. Their candidate is in the lead.
"Mayor Brown has run a very positive campaign and has always put Jacksonville first. Which is why voters are overwhelmingly supporting his re-election," Levy said.
Bishop says the poll shows his star is rising.
"This is a lot better than it was a month ago. Both the Mayor and Lenny Curry are dropping, we moved up, and there’s still a lot of undecideds. I think this thing is wide open," Bishop said.
And a written statement from Curry’s campaign says the poll shows him in a strong position. They point out, Mayor Brown’s numbers have dropped nearly 10 points from a similar UNF poll about a year ago.
WJCT will broadcast a live on-air mayoral debate on March 12th on WJCT-TV 7, 89.9 FM and streaming on WJCT.org/listen, iTunes Radio and TuneIn Radio.
