Florida Lieutenant Governor Carlos Lopez Cantera is making a bid for a bigger job: representing Florida in the U.S. Senate. Lopez-Cantera has announced he was to succeed current Florida Senator Marco Rubio, who is running for President.

Lopez-Cantea announced his decision Wednesday in a You Tube Video. The announcement was first reported by the Miami Herald.

"And as a family, we’ve decided I’m running for the U.S. Senate. So that your kids, and mine, can continue to live in a country that gave my family the blessings of liberty and freedom that only America offers," Lopez-Cantera said in his video announcement."

Lopez Cantera was a member of the Florida House of Representatives from 2004-2012. He was elected as Miami-Dade property appraiser in 2012 and kept the job until last year-when Governor Rick Scott picked him to replace former Lieutenant Governor Jennifer Carroll, who resigned.
