Congresswoman Corrine Brown, D-Jacksonville, said Wednesday she will run for re-election in her newly redrawn District 5.
In a written statement, Brown said she’s declaring her candidacy despite Monday’s federal appeals-court decision to throw out her challenge to the district’s new shape.
The Florida Supreme Court approved a Congressional map last year that changes Brown’s district, stretching south from Jacksonville to Orlando to west toward Tallahassee.
Brown claims the new shape dilutes minority voting strength but the federal court disagreed.
Brown’s lawyer said she’s expected to say soon whether she will appeal the decision to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, Brown faces investigations into her ties to an organization whose director recently pleaded guilty to fraud for posing as a charity.
